SHARON, Pa. – The Eisenhower boys and Warren boys and girls basketball teams were shown the next steps in their quests for district championships when District 10 released its playoff brackets Sunday.
Both the Eisenhower and Warren boys will enter their respective tournaments as the No. 5 seed, the Knights in Class 2A and the Dragons in Class 4A. The Warren girls are the top seed in Class 5A.
The Warren boys will be the first county team to tip-off in District 10 (Sheffield opens the county’s basketball playoffs on Tuesday) when the Dragons travel to Sharon High School for a playoff rematch against Hickory. The Hornets (the No. 4 seed) knocked off the Dragons in the district semifinals a year ago on their way to a state runner-up finish. Tip-off for their quarterfinal game is scheduled for 6 p.m. The winner will play the winner of the No. 1/No. 8 game between Fairview and Corry.
Eisenhower will open the postseason on Friday when the Knights head to Meadville to take on Region 2 rival Cambridge Springs for a 6 p.m. tip-off. The Knights and Blue Devils split their two regular-season matchups, with each team winning on its home court. The winner gets either No. 1 seed Kennedy Catholic or No. 8 seed Cochranton in the semifinals.
The defending D-10 5A champion Lady Dragons also face a region rival when they take on No. 8 seed General McLane on Saturday in the Hagerty Family Events Center. Warren will look to end a 3-game skid against a team it beat twice in the regular season. The winner faces either No. 4 Grove City or No. 5 Franklin in the semifinals.
The top four teams in boys’ Class 2A, top three teams in boys’ Class 3A, and girls’ Class 5A advance to the PIAA state tournament.
