North East Earns Season Sweep Over Eisenhower

February 1, 2024

RUSSELL, Pa. – An 8-0 third-quarter run put the game out of reach as North East picked up a 43-31 Region 3 road win over Eisenhower.

Rewatch the game:

Eisenhower (7-9 overall, 3-7 Region 3) hit a bucket to trim the lead to 21-16 with just over five minutes to play in the third. North East (12-6, 7-3) answered by scoring eight straight to go up 29-16.

The first half Thursday looked nothing like the game these two teams played back on Jan. 4. In that contest, three players had 20 or more points and the teams combined for nearly as many points in the first half (71) as they had all game on Thursday.

The game was tied, 9-9, at the end of the first quarter, but the Pickers’ defense held the Knights to just three points in the second quarter as North East took an 18-12 lead into the half. North East found some offensive rhythm in the second half, as the Pickers knocked down four 3-pointers.

Kayla Forsythe had a team-high 11 points in the win. Gigi Gaston, Alaina Rodemoyer, and Sam Probst each had eight points, while Maisy Post chipped in seven points.

Clara Steinberg had a game-high 17 points for the Knights. Lainey Font and Laney Belcher each had six points.
