Eisenhower Falls to Powerhouse Kennedy Catholic in D10 Class 2A Girls’ Hoops Quarterfinals

February 25, 2023

FARRELL, Pa. – Eisenhower actually scored the first bucket of Saturday’s District 10 Class 2A quarterfinal against top seed Kennedy Catholic, but it was all KC from that point forward in an 85-16 decision.

The defending PIAA Class 1A runner-up Golden Eagles (19-4) got 20 points from Layke Fields, 19 from Hayden Keith, and 17 from Bella Magestro.

Lainey Font led Eisenhower (12-10) with six points, while Clara Steinberg added five.

“At the beginning of the season, the girls set a goal to be above .500 and make the playoffs and they accomplished both of those goals,” said Eisenhower coach DJ Steinberg. “As a coach, you want them to go out and dominate, but building a program takes time. This was a turnaround from a year ago for our program. We went 2-20 last year to winning more games than the last three years combined.

“Kennedy Catholic is a powerhouse and they are big, tough, and just a super team. Caroline Smyth really proved herself defensively today. She has been working hard all season and has made massive strides in her game. She is going to be one to watch for next season.”

Kennedy moves on to face No. 4 Lakeview in the semifinals on Wednesday.

“Overall, it was a great season,” Steinberg added. “Our program has made some big strides.”
