WARREN, Pa. – The Blue Star Mothers of Kinzua were hard at work Saturday with their Christmas in July event, as well as with the Hometown Heroes Banner Program.
The group was given 14 poles on the 200 block of Liberty St. for the banner program, which sold out in minutes. Now, 14 of these veterans are proudly displayed in downtown Warren, their service and sacrifice celebrated and on full display. Those service members are Leota “Lee” Barrett Jones, James Newton, Bob Gates, William Nordin, Phillip Dorn, Glen Culbertson, Sydney Card, Ernest Hoag, Patrick Connacher, Mark BUllock, Joseph Bednez, Warren J. Hamm, Baylee Govier and Bobby Govier.
The hometown heroes were celebrated after the Christmas in July event. Over 220 care packages were packed and prepared to be sent to local deployed troops. With a big assist from the community, the packages will now be sent to 17 different countries.
Also, the Blue Star Mothers are encouraging any veterans who wish to walk in the Fourth of July parade to reach out to them. There will also be trucks to ride in.
