Quack, Quack: Rotary Club Hosts Duck Derby

June 27, 2022

WARREN, Pa. – Buy a duck, and watch them race on the Allegheny River.

The Rotary Club of Warren held its second “Duck Derby” event to raise funds for the Lacy Park Multi-Sensory playground.

“We want to thank everyone for coming out,” said Rotarian Greg Austin. “The proceeds will go to Lacy Park fundraising, the Rotary Club scholarship, as well as the boy scouts (Chief Cornplanter Council Troop 13).”

The event included live music, as well as face-painting, games and hot dogs.

“We sold over 900 ducks,” said Rotarian Vicki Willman.

The exact total raised wasn’t yet known, but the Rotary Club will make that available.

As for the race itself, Bruce Williams, Michelle Munksgard, Jamie Sheehy and Emily Cassidy had the fastest rubber ducks. Prizes included a kayak from Allegheny Outfitters (first prize), a gift certificate to Bent Run Brewery (second prize), one month free at The Goat Fort climbing wall (third prize) and a gift certificate to Penn Wild Outdoors (fourth prize).

Williams, a Rotarian, won the kayak, but generously donated it back to the club.
