WARREN, Pa. – The Warren Zonta Club will have a dual celebration during its annual Lucky Number Luncheon on Saturday.
Saturday’s event will mark the 25th Lucky Number Luncheon, and in addition to the silver anniversary celebration, the Zonta Club itself turns 95 this year.
“Lucky Number Luncheon was started in 1999 in hopes of eliminating all the smaller fundraisers that Warren Zonta had,” the Zonta Club said in a release. “We wanted one big event that would sustain our group and provide the funds for our donations, scholarships, community support, and international dues.”
The Club credited a number of individuals for bringing the LNL concept to Warren.
“Barb Tubbs brought the idea to our club from a Zonta Workshop on Fund Raising,” the release said. “We found out that the Zonta Club of Aurora, NY was already implementing LNL. Sally Ullrich, Roberta Stewart, Cleo DeFiore, and Judy Yaegle made the tip to Aurora, and this was the beginning of our LNL. These ladies were the Mothers of our LNL.”
The LNL will be held at the Conewango Club, the event’s home for the last decade.
“For the first 15 years our event was held at the Holiday Inn in Warren,” the release said. “Since then, we have found a permanent home for LNL at the Conewango Club, where we can offer more seating and better display our prizes.”
Tickets can be purchased through Warren Zonta members and each ticket is good for lunch and five gift tickets. Additional gift tickets are $1 each.
“LNL has grown every year since we started it,” said Marina Smith, this year’s chairwoman. “All gifts are donated by Zonta members, businesses, and ‘friends’ of Zonta. Our event is successful because our entire membership is involved and committed to the highest standards. Most of our sponsors are small, local businesses who believe in our Zonta Mission. Many sponsors have donated every year for the last 25 years.”
