WC United Wrestlers Have Strong Showings at Weekend Championships

February 27, 2023

SAEGERTOWN, Pa. – The Warren County United Girls Wrestling Club had quite the performance at a pair of championships last weekend.

Jenna Kophazy and Kaelon Connolly won their sixth and fourth Area 8 PJW district titles, respectively. Connolly’s win was effortless as her opponent bumped in weight class just prior to the start of the tournament. Kophazy picked up a first-period pinfall victory over Union City’s Karmyn Blystone.

“Kaelon was really looking forward to earning this (title) on the mat because she has one loss to girls this season,” WCUGWC’s Keith Kophazy said. “Jenna’s had many first-period pins in previous championships, and this, her final year of PJW’s was no different.”

Both earned a trip to the PJW state championships this weekend in Johnstown.

Knowing she would have a single PJW match, Kophazy weighed in, then scooted over to the District 9 and 10 girls championships, where she finished second.

Katie Seamens and Kasey Kophazy also had strong showings at the D9 and 10 championships. Seamens took second, while Kasey Kophazy finished third. That earned them a trip to the regional championships at Kiski Area High School in Leechburg on Sunday, March 5.
