April 30, 2024

RUSSELL, Pa. – The sixth inning was kind to Rocky Grove as the Orioles scored eight of their 11 total runs in the sixth to earn a doubleheader sweep over Eisenhower.

Rewatch the games:

The Knights honored their senior trio of Payton Frank, Emilie Jones, and Julia Gesing between games.

ROCKY GROVE 1, EISENHOWER 0, GAME 1

Rocky Grove scored just one run, but it was all Elizabeth Mawhinney needed in a 1-0 win at Eisenhower.

Mawhinney twirled a gem, giving up just two hits without issuing a walk and striking out 12 in seven innings. Mawhinney struck out seven straight over the first three innings.

The Orioles had 10 hits, but couldn’t break through on the scoreboard until the sixth.

Kaylin Jacoby hit a leadoff double, then advanced to third on Jillian Cratty’s ground out. Ashlyn Tucker followed with an RBI single for the game’s only run.

Jacoby finished with a pair of hits. Emily Rice had two hits, including a double, and Zoe Cresswell had three hits.

Payton Frank and Tracey Jakubczak each had a hit for the Knights.

A 7-run sixth inning lifted Rocky Grove to a 10-4 win at Eisenhower.

The Orioles pounded out seven hits and batted around in the inning. Ashlyn Tucker had two singles, scored a run, and drove in another during the inning.

Eisenhower, playing as the visiting team as this was a make-up game, struck for a pair of runs in the first on consecutive RBI singles from Riley Gafner and Tracey Jakubczak.

Rocky Grove scored one run in each of the first three innings. Kaylin Jacoby hit a leadoff double in the first, then came home on a passed ball. Paige Cresswell drew a 1-out walk and scored on an error in the second, and Jacoby scored on Jillian Cratty’s RBI single in the third to put the Orioles ahead, 3-2.

The Knights regained the lead in the fifth. Gafner hit a leadoff single and Jakubczak followed with a double. Alanna Byrd’s RBI single scored Gafner to tie it at 3-3.

With no outs and runners at second and third, Rocky Grove brought Elizabeth Mawhinney-who was stellar in a Game 1 win-on in relief for Cresswell.
