Summer Programming at Beaty School, City Summer Playground Program Canceled for July 10

July 9, 2023

WARREN, Pa. – The Warren County School District and City of Warren Summer Playground Program have canceled activities for Monday, July 10, as the search for Warren County Jail escapee Michael Burham continues.

The WCSD said in a social media post Sunday evening that it was canceling all its summer programming at Beaty Warren Middle School.

“All summer programming normally scheduled at Beaty Warren Middle School for Monday, July 10, 2023, has been cancelled,” the district said. “This includes 21st Century, LEAP, the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), and all SFSP meal preparation for City of Warren playground sites.”

The district said it would provide further updates “if additional cancellations are necessary.”

Just over an hour later, the City of Warren Summer Playground Program made a similar announcement.

“Due to the unknown location of Micheal Burham, the playground program will unfortunately be closed tomorrow, Monday, July 10th,” the program announced on its Facebook page. “Stay safe and be vigilant, hopefully, we will be able to reopen soon! Feel free to reach out to Kassie at (716)753-0962 with any further questions.”

Burham escaped from the Jail late Thursday night and was still at large as of 10 p.m. Sunday.

The Warren City police are investigating the escape, and the Pennsylvania State Police are in charge of the manhunt.

Burham is the primary suspect in the May 11 homicide of Kala Hodgkin in Jamestown (N.Y.), as well as the kidnapping of a Sheffield couple that he transported to the Carolinas using their car before being captured in North Charleston, S.C., and being extradited back to Pennsylvania.
