Sheffield Boys Move to 3-0 with Win Over Johnsonburg

April 11, 2023

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – The Sheffield boys’ track and field team showed its depth in an 85-56 win over visiting Johnsonburg on Tuesday.

Top sprinter Leihden Wotorson missed the meet due to illness, and one of the Wolverines’ other top performers, Lucas McNeal, was limited due to injury. Still, Sheffield won eight events on its way to victory over the Rams.

““Senior stud Lucas McNeal was limited tonight with an injury and only competed in the High Jump and 4×100 relay,” Sheffield coach Jason Snell told Your Daily Local in a Facebook message. “And then with Leihden being out ill, these boys stepped it up tonight and filled in great picking up amazingly for their teammates! It was a great team win!”

Senior Gage Mott-Macalush was a double winner for the Wolverines, winning the 110 hurdles (20.20) and the discus throw (98’ 8.5”). The 4×100 relay of Damar Seymour (filling in for Wotorson), Collin Brown, Colby Barr, and McNeal, remained unbeaten on the season with a winning time of 48.24.

Seymour, a freshman, was also a double winner in the 100M (12.34) and the 200M (24.78). Barr took the top spot in the long jump (16’8″), while Connor Finch won the triple jump (33′), and Ethan Confer was first in javelin (117’9″).

“(I’m) hoping this momentum stays with us and carries on with us in our huge showdown with the 2022 Northern Tier Champions, Coudersport, in Coudersport on Thursday,” Snell said.

The Rammettes topped the Lady Wolverines, 79-61.

Sheffield won the 4×800 relay (14:43) with the team of Kayle Bell, Juniper Gilbride, Brianny Castillo, and Emma McBride.

McBride also took first in the 800M (3:27). Kassidy Orinko was a dual winner, taking first in the long (13’8″) and triple jumps (28’2″). Emily Foster qualified for districts while winning the high jump (4’9″).

“These ladies work so hard and give it their all,” Snell said. “We lost a few key members of the team this year early in the season and our numbers are lower than usual. But these girls fight so hard and I am so proud of them. Their effort is so commendable! Their day in victory lane is coming soon!”
