Sheffield Boys Earn Tri-Meet Sweep, Girls Swept

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – Sheffield’s boys track team earned a sweep over Johnsonburg and DuBois Central Catholic at Johnsonburg on Thursday.

The boys improved to 5-3 this season with an 82-64 win over Johnsonburg and a 92-53 victory over DCC. The girls’ team fell to 1-7 with a 73-46 loss to Johnsonburg and a 97-37 loss to DCC.

Sheffield opened and closed the boys’ meet with a relay win. The 3200 relay team of Marc Lewis, Alex Eaton, Chase Kyler, and Dylan Hardwick opened the meet with a victory, while the 400 relay team of Austin Fiscus, Christopher Joblon, Lewis, and Colby Barr ended the meet with a win.

Eaton was also the winner of the 1600 with a time of 5:21.66. The Wolverines swept the 800 with Hardwick winning in a time of 2:15, followed by teammates Kyler and Lewis. Sophomore Wyatt Newark won the javelin throw with a winning launch of 124’. Fellow sophomore Aamond Bowman was a double winner, winning the long (17’ 9”) and the triple jumps (38’ 2”).

On the ladies’ side Sarah Hoffman was the lone winner on the track winning the 300 hurdles with a time of 54.04

“It was a night of warm heat, a fast track, and great competition,” Sheffield coach Jason Snell said. “Lots of new PRs that may not have won events, but pushed lots of folks on the boys and girls sides that much closer to District qualifying.”

The Wolverines head North this Saturday to compete in the North East Grape Picker Invitational that is being held at Harbor Creek High School while North East’s football field and track are resurfaced. The competition begins at 9:30 a.m.
