Letter to the Editor: Thanks for the Memories

June 10, 2023

I enjoyed the recent Pieces of the Past column on F.A.D.S., particularly the bit about Wamo. I still remember when the super ball came out.

For the last year, I have been searching high and low for one of their old toys I enjoyed back in the 1960s, the Wamo Air Blaster. I was able to locate one in an Adamstown, Pa antique store that even included the gorilla strip target and box. I almost bought it, even though it was a later blue and white version. I want the original black one. This one did not have the ‘oomph’ of the original and so I could not justify the $225 they wanted for it.

The other one I found in an Apollo, Pa antiques store, also blue and white. I might go back and see if it is still available. Not black but these things are hens teeth to find and I’m starting to wonder if I may ultimately have to give up on finding one like I had back in the ’60s. I hear they went away because some youthful adventurers injured themselves firing into ears. Same kind of behavior that disappeared the original Jarts. Also very rare. The article did not mention the air blaster, but talk of Wamo toys called back the memory.

Thanks!
