April 4, 2023

RUSSELL, Pa. – Eisenhower broke the tie with a run in the fifth, then added what would prove to be the game-winner in the sixth before forcing a groundout that left the tying run on third for a 4-3 win over Rocky Grove.

With the game tied at 2-2, Julia Gesing hit a one-out double and moved to third on Payton Frank’s bunt single. Gesing stole home to put the Knights up 3-2.

Samantha Childs hit a leadoff single to start the sixth. One out later, and after Childs had stolen second and third, Kendra Danielson hit an RBI single to bring in Childs for the deciding run.

Rocky Grove staged a two-out rally in the seventh.

After a pair of ground outs, Olivia Faust reached and advanced to second on an error. Grascen Reyburn doubled to score Faust and Emily Rice singled to put runners on the corners and the tying run 60 feet away.

Emilie Jones got Elizabeth Mawhinney to ground out to end the game.

Rice finished with a pair of hits and a run scored. Faust scored twice and Mawhinney and Reyburn each drove in a run.

Mawhinney allowed four runs, three earned, on eight hits with a walk and 10 strikeouts.

Frank, Jones, and Childs each had two hits. Childs scored twice and Danielson had the lone RBI for the Knights.

Jones gave up three runs, one earned, on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts to pick up the win.
