Lady Dragons Drop Road Battle at DCC

December 15, 2023

DUBOIS, Pa. – Kayley Risser became the first DuBois Central Catholic girls’ player in 13 seasons to hit the 1,000-point mark during Thursday’s 41-34 win over visiting Warren.

Rewatch the game

Risser came into the game needing two points to become the first Lady Cardinal since Miller Hopkins hit 1,000 exactly in 2011 to reach the milestone.

She reached 1,000 on a driving, fadeaway jumper with 3:33 to play in the first quarter.

While the milestone came early, it was Risser’s play late that lifted DCC to the win.

After Warren took a 31-29 lead 57 seconds into the fourth quarter on an old-school 3-point play by Halle Kazminski, Risser took over scoring eight of her game-high 16 points in the final eight minutes.

That included a driving layup with 5:41 to play that put the Lady Cardinals up for good, 33-31, and came as part of a 10-2 run by DCC that gave it control of the game.

Risser, who has 1,014 career points, was named the Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Game and talked about reaching 1,000 points and getting the win on the Cole Orthodontic Associates Postgame Interview.

The game was tight throughout with DCC leading 19-17 at halftime and 27-26 at the end of the third quarter.

Emma Elensky added 10 points for the Lady Cardinals with Marina Hanes chipping in six points.

Warren got 11 points from Kuzminski and five apiece from Sam Ruhlman, Alyssa Farr, and Alana Stuart.

DCC is now 5-1 on the year while Warren falls to 2-2.
