SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Kane and Smethport will play for the Sheffield Christmas Tournament championship after opening-round victories Tuesday.
The Wolves earned their second victory in five days over Youngsville with a 50-25 win. The Hubbers held off Sheffield to pick up a 34-28 win.
The consolation game between the Eagles and Wolverines is scheduled to tip at 6 p.m. with the championship game between the Wolves and Hubbers to follow.
SEMIFINALS
SMETHPORT 34, SHEFFIELD 28
Alex Ognen made 8 of 14 free throws and finished with a game-high 17 points to lead Smethport to a 34-28 win over Sheffield.
The Hubbers trailed 22-20 going to the fourth quarter but outscored the Wolverines 14-6 in the final eight minutes thanks to 10 points from Ognen.
Preston Alfieri added seven points for Smethport.
Tony Richards led Sheffield with 12 points.
KANE 50, YOUNGSVILLE 25
Landon Darr had 12 points and six rebounds to lead a balanced effort for Kane in a 50-25 win over Youngsville in the opening round of the Sheffield Christmas Tournament.
Andy Jekielek added 10 points and five rebounds for the Wolves with Justin Mishic chipping in nine points, nine rebounds, and four assists, and Jack Bell eight points and five rebounds.
Alex Hill led Youngsville with 11 points.
