RUSSELL, Pa. – Masters of their craft, chainsaw carvers from far and wide came together at Red Oak Campground for the Scandia Volunteer Fire Department Chainsaw Carve on Friday and Saturday.

You name it, they carve it, from animals such as eagles, bears, and ducks adorning their booths, as well as benches, signs, Native American works and so much more.

It truly is a work of art, and after a rainy Friday, Saturday’s weather proved to be much more conducive to

“There are so many talented carvers here,” said Pat Holbert, who hails from northeast Ohio. “It’s just so fun to be a part of.”

Holbert owns and operates Sugar Ridge Carving, and was one of many carvers to make the trek to Warren County.

Holbert said he’s been chainsaw carving for nearly 40 years.

“I love it,” Holbert said.

John Wesley Williams came all the way from Mills Township, Michigan, and had a number of pieces on display, including a large bald eagle.

“That one took me about two days to make,” he said.

Carvers also came regionally from Union City, Ridgway, Wellsboro, and Coudersport among other locations.

They set up shop during the week, showing off their work while also taking part in some live carving.

Ernest Quinn and Amber Long made the trek from Derry, Pa, and have also taken part in events such as the Keystone State Chainsaw Carving

“We love coming here,” Quinn said.

The Scandia Volunteer Fire Department sold chicken barbeque lunches on Saturday afternoon, and the event culminated with an auction, which was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

“Thank you to all who came out to the chainsaw carve and supported Scandia VFD,” the Scandia VFD said on their Facebook page. “Thank you to Red Oak Campground for hosting. It was a great event with great weather.”
