Wolverines Sweep Rovers

September 5, 2023

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Sheffield got a balanced effort on its way to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-15) win over Brockway.

Rewatch the game:

Kassidy Orinko had five kills, three blocks, seven digs, and four aces to lead the Wolverines’ attack. Emily Davidson had three kills and nine digs, and Kadence Steffan had 10 assists and 10 digs.

Madison Connolly had three kills and five digs and was 14 of 16 from the service line to earn Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Match honors.

“We all can definitely do everything and that’s an advantage because we can all do everything and that really helps,” Connolly said in her Cole Orthodontic Associates postgame interview. “We don’t have that many people, so we all have to be able to do everything. We can all pass, set, we can all hit really well.”

Sophia Schmader led the Rovers with six kills and six digs. Lauren Rendos had five kills and five digs, Bella Patton had two kills. Sam Barber had five digs, Kalina Powell had 17 digs and two aces, and Meeca Smith had 12 assists and seven digs.

Both teams had to face not only each other but an incredibly warm Ralph J. Santo gymnasium with temperatures around the region reaching 90 degrees.

“It was really hard to overcome the heat,” Connolly said. “But I think we’re a really close-knit group and it’s easy for us to communicate, which really helped.”

Sheffield won the junior varsity match, 2-0 (25-16, 25-9)

The Wolverines will host Kane on Thursday.
