WCSD Receiving Applications for School Board Vacancy

December 11, 2021

RUSSELL, Pa. – The Warren County School District needs to fill a vacancy on the school board and will receive applications until noon on Dec. 17.

The district announced during Monday’s board meeting that Chloe Shaffer, the lone candidate on the ballot for the open Region II seat, had sent notice that she would not accept the seat she had been elected to fill.

“Recently we received word from Miss Schaefer that she has indicated via email she will not be taking the Region II board seat,” Board Secretary Ruth Huck said after reading the certification of elections.

Since Shaffer will not fill the seat, the board will appoint an applicant to fill the seat until the next municipal election in 2023.

“Applicants are required to be at least 18 years of age and reside in Region II, which encompasses the boroughs of Clarendon and Tidioute and the townships of Cherry Grove, Conewango, Deerfield, Eldred, Limestone, Mead, Pleasant, Sheffield, Triumph, and Watson,” the district said in a release. “The person appointed will be expected to attend monthly committee meetings, as well as monthly meetings of the Board. A list of meetings, as well as copies of ‘School Board Members’ Basic Duties and Responsibilities’ and ‘Code of Ethics for Pennsylvania School Board Members,’ are attached to the application.”

The application can be found here.

Completed applications should be emailed to Huck at [email protected] or sent or delivered to 6820 Market Street, Russell, PA 16345.

Applicant interviews and a vote to appoint the new member will take place during a special board meeting Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, immediately following monthly committee meetings. Both the committee and special board meetings will be held virtually.
