ERIE, Pa. – Warren Area High School alum Ryan Rafalski tossed a no-hitter as Mercyhurst University earned a 4-0 win to split a doubleheader with Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday.
Rafalski walked six and struck out a pair in his seven innings to get the win in the second game of the twinbill. Rafalski’s gem was the first no-hitter for the Lakers since 2019 when Tyler Garbee did so against Slippery Rock in a 2-0 win.
John Susnik hit a solo home run, Luke Jackson had a 2-run single, and Zachary Kourous had an RBI-single to lead the Lakers’ offense.
UPJ earned a 1-0 win in the first game where the Mountain Cats’ Rodney Schultz threw a no-hitter of his own. Schultz walked one and struck out eight in his seven innings. Josh Ulery’s RBI-triple accounted for the lone run.
