The Champ: Warren’s Damore Wins District 10 Boys’ Golf Title

October 3, 2023

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Just call Braddock Damore the champ.

The Warren Area High School senior captured the District 10 Class 3A boys’ individual golf title on Tuesday at The Country Club of Meadville with a 36-hole total of 148, edging Cathedral Prep’s Cooper Wierzchowski (150) by two strokes.

Damore shot a 72 in the first round on Monday, followed by a 76 on Tuesday.

Wierzchowski shot a pair of 75s.

Damore became just the second Dragon boys’ golfer to win a D10 title, joining his coach, Nate Sandberg, who won as a senior in 2014.

“I am so proud of Braddock and everyone this year,” Sandberg said. “He showed resilience and overcame a tough start. I am looking forward to being his coach for a few more weeks.”

Class 3A in District 10 takes just two golfers to the state championships. Wierzchowski edged Warren’s Brady Berdine (151) for the final spot. Berdine put together rounds of 75 and 76.

The Dragons, the Class 3A team champions as well, will play in a subregional on Thursday against Bradford (D9 champion) and State College (D6 champion), with the winner to move on to the state championships on Oct. 18 at the Penn State University Golf Courses.

Thursday’s match will be at the Treasure Lake Silver Course, which served as Sandberg’s home course while playing collegiately for Clarion University (now PennWest Clarion).

The individual championships are Oct. 16 and 17 at Penn State.
