Strong Season For Wolverines Comes to an End

DUKE CENTER, Pa. – A season full of excitement and improvement came to an end for the Sheffield Wolverines on Monday, 82-63 at Otto-Eldred in the first round of the District 9 Class 1A playoffs on Monday.

Tyler Hepinger scored 23 points to lead the Wolverines, finishing as the program’s No. 2 all-time scorer.

Hepinger scored 15 of his points in the second half for the No. 9 seed Wolverines, who put four players in double figures.

Tony Richards netted 13 points for the Wolverines, while Connor Finch scored all 11 of his points in the first half and Conner Johnson added 10.

Otto-Eldred jumped out to an early double-digit lead thanks to strong play from Austin Cousins, who scored 10 points in the first quarter, but Sheffield rallied to within four, 30-26 in the latter stages of the second quarter.

The Terrors’ responded with a 9-0 run to close the half and then scored the first six points of the second half to take control of the game.

Gavin Jimmerson led O-E with 22 points, while Jake Merry added 19, Cousins 14 and Cole Sebastian 11.

The Terrors move on to face top seed Elk County Catholic on Wednesday.

For Sheffield, under the direction of first-year head coach Jordan Copley, it was a successful campaign that brought marked improvement, double-digit wins and a playoff berth to build on for next season.
