WARREN, Pa. – Warren-based Pennsylvania State Police are warning residents to be aware of a new phone scam occurring in the area.
According to a Thursday release, PSP-Warren “has been made aware of a phone scam where actors are impersonating the Station Commander of PSP Warren.”
Police said the actors request that the victims purchase “Green Dot” gift cards for substantial sums “to avoid being taken into custody for outstanding warrants.”
State police warned residents to be vigilant for such scams, especially ones involving gift cards, and to avoid providing personal information over the phone.
“The Pennsylvania State Police, nor any other agency will ask you to pay for anything over the phone,” the release said.
