WARREN, Pa. — Movie goers in Warren County won’t have to leave the county to catch films on the big screen anymore
Warren Mall Cinemas reopens May 27 with showings of “Cruella” and “A Quiet Place II.” The theatre has been closed for months due to COVID-19 restrictions.
“We’re looking to open sometime in May,” a Dipson representative told yourdailylocal.com in March.
In order to reopen, the representative said, two things needed to happen. First, states had to ease COVID-related occupancy restrictions. Second, film companies needed to begin widespread product distribution.
Gov. Tom Wolf announced earlier this month that all occupancy restrictions across the commonwealth would be lifted May 31. Theatres have been able to be at 75 percent of capacity since April 4.
Since initial lockdowns began last year, major film companies had been turning to streaming platforms to release new movies. For example, Disney has released titles such as “Mulan” and “Raya and the Last Dragon” directly to its Disney+ platform with its “Premier Access” option.
Many states have begun to ease occupancy restrictions, which is opening the door for more widespread film distribution.
First showings are at 6:15 p.m. for “Cruella” and 7 p.m. for “A Quiet Place II.”
