SHEFFIELD, Pa. – The Sheffield vs Montrose football game scheduled for 3 p.m. today has been canceled.
Sheffield Athletic Director Corey Copley confirmed to Your Daily Local and the YDL Sports Network that Montrose had started to make the trip to Sheffield, but decided to turn back due to forecasted storms.
Because of the mid-afternoon kick and no lights on Wolverine Mountain, a lengthy lightning delay would have made it difficult for the game to proceed. Copley said the initial decision by both schools was to proceed and he wasn’t sure what led to Montrose’s decision to cancel.
The game will be recorded as a no contest.
Sheffield hosts Elk County Catholic next Saturday, kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
