Sheffield Boys Track and Field Opens Season With Pair of Wins

April 5, 2023

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – The Sheffield boys track and field teams earned a pair of wins in their opening tri-meet, beating Oswayo Valley 113-28 and Port Allegany 91-50.

The girls, meanwhile, dropped an 80-55 decision to OV and 72-64 to Port Allegany.

For the boys, all three relay teams were victorious, while Lucas McNeal swept the long (18-6), triple (37-1), and high jumps (5-8).

“Last season we had a close 1-point victory over Port, so to win in convincing fashion over them tonight was a good feeling,” said coach Jason Snell.

The 4X800 relay won with a time of 9:50 – Trenton Mead, Christopher Joblon, Alex Eaton, and Dylan Hardwick.

The 4×400 relay won with a winning time of 4:09 – the team of Collin Brown, Austin Fiscus, Dylan Hardwick, and Colby Barr.

The 4×100 team won with a winning time just shy of district qualification with a time of 47.71 seconds – the team of Colby Barr, Collin Brown, Leihden Wotorson, and anchor McNeal.

Other overall winners for the Wolverine men were Leihden Wotorson in the 100 meters- 12.08 seconds, Damar Seymour in the 200 meter- 24.55 seconds, Colby Barr in the 400 meters- 57.58 seconds, Dylan Hardwick in the 800 meters- 2 minutes and 15 seconds, and Gage Mott-Macalush in the 110 Hurdles-20.34 seconds.

Highlighting the ladies’ efforts was the winning 4×100 relay team of Bryana Butler, Kassidy Orinko, Emma Roell, and Kadence Steffan with a winning time was 57.60 seconds.

“It was an amazing effort. Especially by junior Kadence Steffan who filled in at anchor for an absent two-time PIAA qualifier Emily Foster. She ran a great finishing leg. Kadence may have gotten herself a new full-time job!” Snell said.

Other overall Lady Wolverine winners included junior Kassidy Orinko in the high jump with a height of 4’ 7” and freshman Emma Roell in the discus with a throw of 77’ 5”.

The Wolverines will return to action after the Easter Break at home versus Johnsonburg on Tuesday, April 11 in a rescheduled event.
