PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow early Tuesday morning, predicting six more weeks of winter.
It marked a change-up from the last two years, when Phil didn’t see his shadow, predicting and early spring.
The announcement from Gobbler’s Knob was far different from years past, as there were no spectators permitted. The decision to make the event virtual-only this year was due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The annual event began in 1886 with the ‘Puntxustawney Groundhog Club’ proclaiming Punxsutawney Phil the weather-predicting groundhog.
Since then, Phil has predicted six more weeks of winter 104 times.
