Pickleball Courts Project at Betts Set to Take the Next Step

March 30, 2022

The proposed idea of pickleball courts at Betts Parks is set to move forward, with some details that still need to be ironed out.

Last week, the Warren City Council approved a letter of support for the project to move ahead.

“We’re not in a position to have those courts be built at Betts without the support of the city,” said Kim Mong of the Warren Pickleball Club. “We’re asking your approval of what the Parks and Rec. Commission has already recommended.”

Council approved the letter with several concerns, the main one of which is the management of the courts, as they would be a public entity.

“I believe this is a good project and my only hold up is the management of the courts,” said Councilman John Wortman.

The Warren Pickleball Club is looking for any city funding (they are obtaining that on their own) and has already received approval from the Betts Foundation.

“I am a supporter of the pickleball project that was presented to Parks and Rec in October of last year. I believe it will be a benefit to all of the Warren Community,” said John Marti during public comment. “It would put Waren at the forefront of the fastest growing sport in the country.”
