North Warren VFD Hosting “Morning Brew with the Firehouse Crew” on May 6

May 5, 2023

NORTH WARREN, Pa. – The North Warren Volunteer Fire Department is trying something new in its effort to find new volunteers. Instead of a formal meeting, firefighters will have an informal conversation with potential new members over coffee.

The inaugural “Morning Brew with the Firehouse Crew” will occur at the North Warren Fire Station from 8 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 6. Free coffee and donuts will be provided for all attendees.

“This is something a little bit different than what a lot of other places do or try,” North Warren VFD Chief Shawn Jones told Your Daily Local. “This is trying to bridge that gap. People in a huge forum sometimes don’t often ask questions that they may want to ask. So what we’re trying to do is just have an informal, get-together.”

Jones and other firefighters will be present to chat with community members interested in possibly joining the VFD and those who just want to know what volunteer firefighters do when the fire whistle blows.

The VFD also has fundraising and administrative positions for those who may be weary about fighting fires.

“From doing the ‘Job’ to fundraising to administrative positions, this is a place where you can give back to the community and become part of the 55 house,” a promotional poster reads.

Not limited to North Warren residents, Jones hopes anyone interested in volunteering comes out, regardless of where they live.

“We hope that people of our community, and our surrounding communities that are interested in fire departments come down, ask the questions that you may feel silly about, and just have that informal, meet the firehouse crew, see what we’re about, and where maybe you could fit into that organization if they so desired.”
