Lakeview Sails Past Eisenhower

September 23, 2023

RUSSELL, Pa. – Leyton Zacherl more than doubled his season passing yardage and touchdown totals as Lakeview moved to 5-0 for the first time in program history with a 48-28 win at Eisenhower.

Rewatch the game:

Zacherl threw for 323 yards and four touchdowns after coming into the game with 297 yards and three touchdowns through three games.

The Sailors wasted little time getting the aerial attack going.

After forcing a punt, Lakeview took over deep in its own territory. A 42-yard pass from Zacherl to Blake Skiles moved the Sailors into Eisenhower territory. Mitchell Tingley’s 25-yard run on the next play gave Lakeview a first-and-goal.

Two plays later, Zacherl connected with Hinkson for a 5-yard score and a 6-0 Lakeview lead.

Eisenhower recovered a fumble on the first play of the second quarter, and promptly drove down the field. Kris Bunk hauled in a 26-yard touchdown pass from Shawn Pascuzzi to cap the drive and Cole Kellogg’s PAT put the Knights in front, 7-6.

The lead lasted for 36 seconds.

Zacherl threw a quick pass to Danick Hinkson. Hinkson broke a pair of tackles, then raced down the sideline for a 77-yard touchdown to put the Sailors in front for good.

After recovering a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, Tingley needed just two carries, the second a 14-yarder, to get the Sailors back in the end zone.

Lakeview scored again with less than 30 seconds to play in the first half. The Sailors drove down to the Knights’ 10, but a pair of false start penalties looked like they might stall the drive. Zacherl put a pass into the corner of the end zone where Skiles out-jumped the coverage to come down with the touchdown catch.

Zacherl and Skiles hooked up again early in the third quarter for a 45-yard gain that set Lakeview up at the Eisenhower 5. Tingley did the rest and the Sailors had a 32-7 advantage.

Eisenhower answered with a 4-minute drive that featured short gains on the ground before Pascuzzi rolled and found Ryan Chambers open over the middle for a 49-yard touchdown pass.

The Sailors responded on the next play from scrimmage.

Hinkson got behind the coverage and Zacherl dropped a dime into his bread basket for a 48-yard strike.

Following a Luke Klonowski interception, Lakeview got the ball at the Eisenhower 36. Osborne capped the drive with a 2-yard plunge to make it 48-14.

Eisenhower marched back down the field and Pascuzzi ended the drive with an 8-yard run to cut the deficit to 48-20 with just over a minute to play in the third quarter.

Tucker Lindell scored the final points with a 6-yard run late in the fourth quarter.

Tingley ran 15 times for 97 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Brayden Booher added six carries for 62 yards.

Skiles and Hinkson each had five receptions. Skiles finished with 137 yards and a touchdown, while Hinkson had 175 yards and three TDs.

Pascuzzi 5-9 passing for 117 yards and two touchdowns, and ran 13 times for 94 yards and a score. Lindell had 12 carries for 74 yards and a touchdown, Bunk had three receptions for 46 yards and a TD.
