Johnny Appleseed Committee Posts Letter Saying Festival is No More

March 6, 2024

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – After 17 years, the Johnny Appleseed Festival will no longer take place, the festival committee said in a letter posted to social media Wednesday evening.

The committee said it no longer has “the resources needed to continue providing a Festival of the quality we have all come to expect.” The 2023 Johnny Appleseed Festival was the last, according to the letter.

Though the event will not continue, the committee said it is proud of the work it has done over the last 17 years.

“We take pride and satisfaction in what we’ve accomplished and thank all the generous sponsors, volunteers, vendors and competitors that helped make this idea become a reality,” the letter reads. “That dedication and recurring support drew athletes from across the globe, entertained millions of viewers online, and brought thousands of tourists from all over the northeast to Sheffield.”
