Fatal Crash on PA 77 Wednesday Morning

SPARTA TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Pennsylvania State Police reported a Pittsburgh man was killed in a one-vehicle crash on PA Route 77 on Wednesday morning.

According to PSP-Corry, a Freightliner 114 driven by Richard Darges, 61 of Pittsburgh, was traveling north on state highway 89/77 at 8:13 a.m. on Wednesday when the vehicle failed to negotiate the turn that heads east onto state highway 77. The vehicle drove off the roadway, police said. and onto a patch of grass where it began to “overturn onto its driver side.”

Police said the vehicle overturned on its driver’s side, struck the pavement on Highway 77, and the driver’s side cab hit a grass embankment on the north side of the road before the vehicle came to rest on the driver’s side.

Darges was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
