FREDONIA, NY – A Jamestown man was arrested and charged with multiple felonies Saturday for a dirtbike theft in Ripley that occurred in June.

On Dec. 3 at approximately 2:30 p.m., the NYSP Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and uniform Troopers out of SP Fredonia arrested Cortland J. Hepfner, 22 of Jamestown, NY for Grand Larceny 3rd degree, a class D felony and Burglary 2nd degree, a class C felony.

On June 9, troopers out of Fredonia responded to a burglary complaint on Klondike Road in the town of Ripley. The complainant stated an unknown person had gained access to their garage through a window and stole a Kawasaki dirtbike worth $4,000. Troopers located the stolen property in the town of Dunkirk and returned it to the owner. Throughout the investigation, multiple sources named Hepfner as the primary suspect in the burglary.

Troopers located Hepfner in the city of Jamestown and transported him to SP Fredonia for questioning by Fredonia BCI. Further investigation revealed that Hepfner was already on probation for a prior burglary.

Hepfner was remanded to the Chautauqua County jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
