Bulldogs rushing attack too much for Dragons

October 11, 2020

WARREN, Pa. – Meadville’s 3-headed monster in the run game flexed its muscles on Saturday, as the Bulldogs knocked off Warren 45-6.

Khalon Simmons led the way with 191 yards and four touchdowns – two in each half, one of three different Bulldogs to surpass 100 yards rushing in the Region 8 battle.

Simmons’ first carry of the game went 49 yards for a touchdown at the 8:39 mark of the first quarter, and the Bulldogs were off and running.

The sophomore back scored again from 15 yards out in the first quarter, but the turning point of the game came late in the second quarter.

After a Meadville touchdown was called back, Sam Burchard connected with Tamoj Lyons-Glover on a 10-yard touchdown with just seven second left in the half, sending the Bulldogs (4-1) into the locker room with a 21-0 lead.

Simmons scored twice more in the third quarter on runs of 16 and 61 yards, and Lyons-Glover broke free for a 71 yard score early in the fourth quarter. Griffin Buzzell, who had 161 yards on the ground, got in the scoring act as well on a 1-yard plunge.

Landon Douvlos looked sharp in the second half for the Dragons, throwing for 161 yards and a 43-yard touchdown to Alex Borger late in the fourth quarter.

Douvlos spread the ball around, as Micah Passmore, Ben White, Ethan Wilson, Tommy Nyquist, James Swanson and Borger all caught multiple passes.

Alan McAlllister had a pair of tackles for loss for the Dragons and Blake Arnold blocked an extra point.

Meadville has a showdown at 3-1 Conneaut next week, while the Dragons travel to Titusville.
