WARREN, Pa. – The Zonta Club of Warren presented three women with the 2024 “Women Who Make a Difference” award for their professional leadership and/or volunteer work in Warren County.
Ruthann DeVore, Amber Sharp, and Penny Lester received the awards at the March 14, 2024 Zonta Club meeting. Each woman received a certificate, a yellow rose – a Zonta symbol, and $100 to an organization of their choice.
In a release, the Zonta Club said each woman was chosen because “she simply and quietly goes about her work, yet she inspires, empowers and advances the status of women.”
DeVore is a community leader in the Lottsville area co-chairing the Lottsville Heritage Festival in the Fall, leadership in Hill & Dale Garden Club where community garden activities are done throughout Warren County, and participant in several church outreach work, county fair, and other county organizations.
Sharp has been a childcare teacher at the Jefferson DeFrees Family Center since August 2021. She currently teaches a classroom of 3-4-year-olds. Sharp’s calm demeanor and seemingly unlimited amount of patience make her a one-of-a-kind treasure for a classroom full of energetic and often unreasonable 3-year-olds. She has the love and respect of not only her children but her peers as well. She serves as a mentor to many of the young teaching staff.
Lester is a member of First Lutheran Church who supports learning the English language programs for new citizens, along with helping them to adapt to Warren and Chautauqua Counties, plus fundraising for individuals in need of food, housing, and health care. She is an active member of several community organizations that better our community.
