SHEFFIELD, Pa. – The Warren JV teams opened their seasons in a thriller on Sunday, Aug. 28 on Wolverine Mountain as they faced off against each other.
The Warren Hurricanes faced off against the Warren Panthers in a back-and-forth battle with the Panthers coming out on top after a Hunter Vanderhoof 2-point conversion run that sealed the game for a 14-13 win.
For the Hurricanes, Luke Baxter had a rushing TD and ran in the conversion. Braylon Curtis added a TD later in the game after a catch and run that scored the final points for the Hurricanes.
Hunter Vanderhoof scored two rushing TDs for the Panthers and sealed the game after Coach Lord decided to go for the victory with a 2-point conversion attempt. Vanderhoof took a left sweep around the corner from the 10 and pushed himself into the endzone despite the best efforts of the Hurricane defense. The defensive stand-out and leader of the defense for the Panthers was Marcus Williams who had two sacks in the game.
COUDERSPORT 19, WARREN HOGS 0
SHEFFIELD, Pa. – The Coudersport defense held strong as the visiting Falcons topped the Warren Hogs, 19-0, in varsity action.
Ty Bryan had 43 yards passing, 18 yards rushing, and threw two interceptions in the loss. Parker Kiser had 6 yards rushing and 25 yards receiving, Thayne Gourley had 11 yards rushing and 15 yards receiving, Keagan Weissinger added 13 yards rushing, and Wyatt Wilson added 3 yards receiving on his only reception of the game.
The Hogs’ defense made some plays but was unable to hold the Falcons’ offense. Gourley led the defense with 7 tackles, and Kiser added 6 tackles and an interception. Jaret Lang was switched to safety adding an interception and a pass deflection.
Gavin Mealy put up 4 tackles and a tackle for a loss. Weissinger and Matthew Morse added 3 tackles a piece with Weissinger adding another tackle for a loss in the matchup.
