September 20, 2022

SMETHPORT, Pa. – A change of venue didn’t have much impact as the Warren Hurricanes picked up their first road win of the season, 24-0, over the Smethport Lil Hubs.

Timothy Cope had a pair of rushing touchdowns and Glade Rulander threw two touchdown passes, one to Braylon Curtis, and the other to Zane Getner.

SMETHPORT HUBS 14, WARREN HOGS 8
SMETHPORT, Pa. – Smethport’s defense held off a late Warren rally as the Hubs topped the Hogs, 14-8.

The Hogs and Hubs battled back and forth throughout the first half but the defenses held strong. Late in the first quarter, Ty Bryan connected with Parker Kiser for a 55-yard TD that was called back for a block in the back to kill the Hogs scoring drive and later settled for a punt.

The Hubs responded and drove the field until Ty Bryan picked off a deep pass denying a Hubs Score. The defense was strong for both teams throughout the half with both teams going into halftime tied 0-0.

The Hubs came out strong in the second half and put the first score on board with a touchdown and an extra point on the board making the score 7-0. The Hogs stalled on several drives due to penalties and mistakes.

The Hubs then scored again early in the fourth quarter, going up 14-0 but the Hogs were not going down without a fight. Bryan drove the field but ultimately threw an interception deep in Hub’s territory. The Hogs’ defense quickly got the ball back and Bryan connected with several receivers putting a good drive together and ultimately hit Wyatt Wilson on a 40-yard pass play that put the first points on the board for the Hogs.

Bryan then connected with Parker Kiser on the two-point conversion making the score 14-8. With little time left in the game, the Hogs were unable to get the ball back and the final score was Hubs 14- Hogs 8.

Ty Bryan led the Hogs’ offense with 128 yards passing and 10 yards rushing, Thayne Gourley added 28 yards rushing, Parker Kiser added 24 yards rushing and 43 receiving, and a 2-point conversion catch. Wyatt Wilson had 84 yards receiving and a TD catch, and Benny Matson ended the day with 1-yard receiving.

Kiser had a big day on defense totaling up 10 tackles, Tucker Sanford added 6, two of them for a loss. Keagen Weissinger added 5 tackles of his own. Thayne Gourley with 4 tackles. Benny Matson and Wyatt Wilson rounded out with 3 tackles a piece and Bryan added a tackle and an interception on the day.

BRADFORD RAPTORS 30, WARREN PANTHERS 12
BRADFORD, Pa. – In PeeWee action on Sunday, the Warren Panthers faced a very tough league-leading and 4-0 Bradford Raptors team. The Raptors came out strong and put up some quick points against the Panthers who were down by 3 touchdowns going into the half but in the final minute of the half Jaxon Wotorson took a pitch left the distance from about 60 yards out to put the panthers on the board.

Early in the third quarter, Hunter Vanderhoof wouldn’t be denied as he took a long run to the house for the second and only score in the second half for the Panthers. Blake VanArdsdale had an 8-yard carry in the game for the Panthers and had a sack in the game. The Warren Panthers fell short losing 30-12 against the Raptors in the travel game debut.
