Warren Tire Center Flood Warning Issued Wednesday

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The National Weather Service in State College has issued a River Flood Warning for the Conewango Creek beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The Warning runs until 1 a.m. Saturday and is for the Conewango Creek at Russell. Minor flooding is forecast, though the NWS said “this approaches the flood of record.”

The NWS gave the following impacts of flooding at various levels:

“At 8.0 feet, both banks begin to overflow, affecting low lying areas. At 9.0 feet, a number of homes on the right, or west bank are affected by high water. At 10.0 feet, a number of homes on the right, or west bank are affected. The roadway on the left bank is also affected.”

As of 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, the NWS said the stage was at 8.9 feet.

“The river is expected to rise above flood stage this evening to a crest of 9.1 feet early tomorrow afternoon,” the NWS said. “It will then fall below flood stage Friday evening.”

According to the NWS, flood stage is at 9.0 feet.

The NWS and PennDOT remind motorists to “Turn around, don’t drown.” According to the NWS, “most flood deaths occur in vehicles.”
