Warren Dawgs Fall in Championship Game

KANE, Pa. – In a battle of the top offense and top defenses in the league, Cameron County beat the Warren Dawgs, 27-12 in the WCYFL title game.

The Dawgs were unable to overcome a first quarter in which they turned the ball over three times, leading to three scores for Cameron County, as they raced out to a 20-0 lead.

The Dawgs got something going in the second quarter, using the legs of Keegan Weissinger, Clay Cummings and Johnny Nunez. Chase Raub, Cummings and Lukas Cope also had big catches, and the drive was capped by a 15-yard touchdown reception from Clayton Hammerbeck.

Cameron Country turned another turnover into a touchdown before halftime to take a 27-6 lead.

The Dawgs drove down the field late in the second quarter, including a 29-yard pass to Hammerbeck, but were unable to put points on the board.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Dawgs got a big turnover courtesy of Cummings deep in Cameron County territory, resulting in a 15-yard touchdown pass from Weissinger to Cope.

Offensively the Dawgs were led by Weissinger’s 86 yards passing and 51 yards rushing including two touchdown passes. Cummings, Nunez and Pape added multiple rushing yards. Cummings, Hammerbeck, Cope and Raub would all have multiple receptions. The Dawgs finished with 212 yards of total offense behind the line of Pape, Laine Jackson, Jeremiah Lyon, Owen Young and Ryan Hilliard. That group didn’t allow a sack the entire game.

Clay Cummings had nine tackles, while Pape, Raub, Lyon, Weissinger, Logan Beedle and Hammerbeck all had multiple tackles.

In addition, 11 sixth graders made the Little 30 all-star game for the Dawgs – Keegan Weissinger, Chase Raub, Clay Cummings, John Nunez, Clayton Hammerbeck, Noah Pape, Jeremiah Lyon, Ryan Hilliard, Owen Young, Hunter Ingerson, and Logan Beedle. The Little 30 is scheduled for Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. at Cameron County.
