WARREN, Pa. – As far as openers go, this one was pretty good.
The Warren Boys Major All-Stars scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back in an 11-1 win over Smethport/Mt. Jewett in their first game of tournament play at Betts Jackson Field.
Cole Fitzgerald ended the game in the fifth, knocking in Tanner Stuart, who singled, to put the 10-run rule in effect.
Broc Bryan started on the mound for Warren and went two innings to get the win, striking out five, with Stuart and Wesley Wilcox coming on in relief.
In the four-run first, Fitzgerald and Bryan hit back-to-back doubles, with Wyatt Wilson and Aaron Shene also adding base knocks in the frame.
Warren scored five more runs in the third, as Wilson, Heath Genis, Eddie Abplanalp and Stuart all had hits. Wilson led the strong offensive attack with three hits.
With the win, Warren advances to play Potter/McKean at 4 p.m. Sunday at Coudersport.
