JAMESTOWN, NY – SUNY Jamestown Community College has announced plans and protocols for the fall 2021 semester. The college announced in April it would return to full in-person operations for the semester, which begins on Aug. 23.
“The health and safety of our students remain our first priority,” said Daniel DeMarte, JCC president. “As we return to greater activity on campus, we are confident in our plan to be able to continue to serve our students in the most effective way possible and are excited to welcome them back to campus.”

COVID-19 Protocols
In adherence to federal, state, and county public health guidelines, JCC will continue to have weekly COVID-19 pool testing available and require both students and employees to complete a daily COVID-19 screening.
Unvaccinated individuals on campus are expected to continue wearing a face mask, practice social distancing, participate in pool testing, and complete the daily screening.
Face masks will be required in classrooms regardless of vaccination status. This requirement may change as conditions improve with the Delta variant. Campus capacities for all classrooms and sites are expected to return to pre-pandemic allowances.
COVID-19 Vaccination
As previously announced, once at least one vaccine is approved by the Food and Drug Administration, the State University of New York will require all on-campus students across the system to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. Religious and medical exemptions from vaccination will be permitted.
Students who are taking online coursework only and have no plans to participate in any on-campus activities or interactions will not be required to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.
Course Delivery
The college will continue to operate under the federal, state, and county public health guidelines, while planning to safely return to in-person instruction and operations. Online courses and programs have been increased to provide students flexibility.
Cleaning Protocols
Regular cleaning, as prescribed by building occupancies, will continue, with priorities being adjusted to provide for increased cleaning and disinfecting of high-traffic, high-touch surfaces, such as stair railings, exterior and interior door hardware and surfaces, light switches, etc. Hand sanitizing stations have been installed throughout the college at main entry/exit points of buildings and will continue to be provided in high-traffic areas as supplies become available.

Student Outreach Programs
To aid students in their transition back to in-person learning, JCC has hosted a variety of student outreach programs throughout the summer and will continue to do so prior to the beginning of the semester on Aug. 23.
Returning students who did not have the opportunity to take on-campus courses last semester have been invited to attend “Sophomore Student Days” at each of JCC’s three sites. Additionally, “Accepted Student Days” have also taken place throughout the summer, while orientation sessions for new students are also scheduled for the week of Aug. 16 at the Jamestown and Cattaraugus County campuses, as well as the North County Center in Dunkirk.
Students interested in attending any of the final two Accepted Student Days at the Cattaraugus County Campus on Aug. 10, and the Jamestown Campus on Aug. 12 should visit sunyjcc.edu/asd to register.
Course Registration
Registration for the fall 2021 semester is open and students are highly encouraged to enroll in classes as soon as possible, according to Colette Haight, coordinator of academic advising. The fall semester begins on Aug. 23.
Additionally, walk-in advisement and registration for fall classes will be available on Aug. 21 and 22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for incoming students who have not already done so. Returning and new students can visit sunyjcc.edu/advising to learn more.
Success Navigators
For students just beginning their college experience at JCC, the college has added two new positions to aid in that transition.
“Because the process of starting college can be confusing, we’ve added two ‘Success Navigators’ that are available to assist new students through that transition by answering questions, connecting them to resources, helping them log into their JCC accounts, and more,” said Colette Haight, coordinator of academic advising.
Haight noted that students can contact their Success Navigator by visiting sunyjcc.edu/nextsteps. Navigators are also available to chat live during weekly virtual drop-in sessions.
