Russell’s Lundmark Wins Best in Show at SUNY JCC Juried Student Art Exhibition

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Artistic works produced by seven SUNY Jamestown Community College students received awards at the Juried Student Art Exhibition that opened Friday, April 26, in the Weeks Gallery on the Jamestown Campus.

Bailey Lundmark of Russell won best in show for “Surf and Turf,” a series of six oil paintings. Hannah Eckhert of Frewsburg won the President’s Choice Award for “Cats Cradle,” an installation piece created from a shelf, bowls, and yarn. Grem Lee of Olean won Artistic Excellence in Ceramics for “Devour, Devour, Devour.” Rena Colletti of Jamestown won Artistic Excellence in Drawing for “Yarn & Hook,” and Best Overall Portfolio Award for “Got Yarn?” Alicyn Emley of Frewsburg won Artistic Excellence Painting for “The Fruits of My Labor.” Justina Moore of Jamestown won Artistic Excellence in Sculpture for “Eternal Perch.” Mackenzie Steinwachs of Silver Creek won Artistic Excellence in Photography for “Koi Fish.” Winners received monetary awards.

The show features approximately 130 creative works by student artists from all JCC locations, including those taking classes through JCC’s College Connections program. Terry McKelvey, professor of Painting, Drawing, and 2D Design at PennWest University in Edinboro, Pennsylvania, judged the exhibition. He holds a master’s in Fine Arts in Painting from Cornell University and has been a professor for more than 25 years.

The collection is on display through May 9 during regular business hours at Weeks Gallery inside the Sheldon Center.
