Ross K. Weigel

Ross K. Weigel, 98, a longtime resident of Barnes, Pa., Sheffield Township passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at home with his loving family by his side. He was born on May 23, 1923, in Albion, Pennsylvania, the son of Ross K. and Pearl Moore Weigel.

Ross was a 1941 graduate of Albion High School. He went on to serve his country in the United States Coast Guard from 1942-1946. Ross gained employment at the General Electric (Erie Plant), Flickinger’s Red and White Warehouse and did surveying in Erie County. He also fired boilers for Millcreek School District.

He married the love of his life, Jean Fairfield at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Millcreek on August 5, 1949. Ross and Jean moved to Barnes (Sheffield Township) in 1955 where they raised their family.

Ross retired in 1986 from Pennsylvania American Water Company of Warren after 30 years of service. Ross was a humble man who would quietly help anyone. Ross had a strong work ethic which he passed on to his children.

Left behind to cherish Ross’s memory are his loving wife, Jean, of 72 years, at home; two daughters: Karen Foor (Husband, Danny) of Erie, Pennsylvania; Kathryn Wagner (Husband Jim) of Brookston, Pennsylvania; three sons: Kevin Weigel of Adams Township, Pennsylvania; Kris Weigel (Wife Barbara) of Travelers Rest, South Carolina and Kyle Weigel (Wife Roxanne) of Pataskala, Ohio; Seven grandchildren: Jeffrey Foor (Angela); Kimberly Choudhary (Chirag); Jessica Benjamin (Josh); James Wagner (Danielle); Keith Weigel (Stephanie); Tess Osborne (Dave); and Kali Adams (John); Sixteen great-grandchildren; one nephew: Vern Weigel Jr. and one niece, Patricia Love.

He was preceded in death by son R Keith Weigel in 1969 and daughter-in-law Debra Weigel in 2021. In addition to a brother Vern Weigel; sisters Thora Spaulding, Eleanor Weigel, Charolette Love, and Winifred Shellito. Also, his stepmother Bertha Bortz Weigel, four nieces and a nephew, Ross Love.

Ross’s family will welcome family and friends on Friday, February 18, 2022 at the Sheffield United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Douglas Brink, Church Pastor, officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by the Sheffield, Clarendon, and Warren VFW. Burial will follow at Barnes Cemetery.
