Matt Bodamer Returning to District 9 Football as Head Coach at Kane

June 27, 2024

KANE, Pa. – One of the best to play in District 9 is now coming back to the district’s football scene as the new head coach at Kane.

Matt Bodamer, who teaches STEM at the school, will soon be officially named the school’s football coach, pending board approval, replacing Keaton Rounsville, who was the coach for one year.

Bodamer will be the fourth head coach for the school in the last five years.

Former head coach Todd Silfies, who won three D9 titles, replaced Jim Hillman for the 2021 season and coached for two more years before having to step aside when he became the school’s assistant principal because of school policy.

Rounsville then took over last year with the Wolves going 0-10.

Bodamer was a record-setting quarterback at Port Allegany, where his dad, Mike, was the head coach. He led the Gators to back-to-back District 9 titles in 2011 and 2012 and was selected as the Pennsylvania Football News Mr. Football in 2012 when Port Allegany reached the PIAA semifinals falling to Clairton and current NFL player, Tyler Boyd.

That year, Bodamer was also the PFN Class 1A Offensive Player of the Year as well as the the Max Preps 2012 Small School First-Team All-American, and the District 9 Player of the Year.

While in high school, Bodamer set PIAA state records for career touchdown passes (137), career passing yards (10,948), career combined offensive touchdowns (177), and career total offense (13,263 yards). Those are all still District 9 records.

As a senior, he set the PIAA season record for passing yards (3,951) and touchdown passes (52) while also running for 832 yards and 13 touchdowns. He went 227 of 323 that year with eight interceptions.

As a junior, he went 247 of 378 passing for 3,766 yards with 49 touchdowns and six interceptions while rushing for 806 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Bodamer was recruited at Edinboro and played sparingly for the Fighting Scots before transferring to Gannon, where he played baseball.

Upon graduation, Bodamer moved to North Carolina where he was an engineer and a real estate agent before returning to North West-Central Pennsylvania becoming the first STEM teacher at Kane High School this past school year.

Bodamer lives in Kane with his wife, Tierra, and their two children, Beckhem and Holland.
