Let’s Be Thankful Every Day, Not Just On Thanksgiving

November 25, 2020

It’s easy to be cynical in a year like 2020.

It’s also easy to be overly cliche.

Be thankful on Thanksgiving, they say. Words we hear over and over again.

Be thankful to all of the front line workers who have made the world better during these difficult times, as well as all the scientists working toward a vaccine.

They are words that have been drilled into us so much I hope we don’t forget their meaning. And they ring true on Thanksgiving as much as any other day.

My hope is that they won’t be hollow, that we won’t forget them when things get back to normal, that these everyday heroes we don’t forget to thank, you know, every day, when this passes.

And it will pass.

If there’s one thing I hope we glean from this year, it’s to appreciate those people, the people that make the real difference, that make our lives just a little bit easier.

I also hope we learn to appreciate and value the people that matter the most to us in our own lives even more.

I’m not accusing anyone of not doing that, but I know that I certainly have taken for granted from time to time those people, those family and friends that are somehow, against all odds, always there for us.

It’s easy to do.

This year hasn’t been easy, my friends.

I know for me personally, it’s been filled with unexpected twists and turns, with changing jobs, as well as at times challenges with my mental health and well being.

Through all of it, I’ve gained that appreciation for family and friends that I took for granted. I’ve learned to lean on those closest to me for help and guidance, and realized you don’t have to fight your battles alone.

We all have those battles, in some form or fashion, as many of us have discovered during the strangest of years.

My hope, again, is we appreciate those around us that help us fight through whatever struggles we may be facing, and help those closest to us through their own.

This year has been hard, and I think I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, that we’ve all needed that assistance from time to time.

Don’t be afraid to give it, or ask for it.

And most of all, don’t forget to be thankful EVERY DAY!
