Lady Knights Drop Saturday Twinbill

April 24, 2022

RUSSELL, Pa. – Eisenhower softball hung with both Kane and Cambridge Springs for a few innings, but ultimately fell to both teams in a Saturday doubleheader.

The Lady Knights were tied, 3-3, with Kane through four innings. The Lady Wolves exploded for three runs in the fifth and four in the sixth inning to come away with a 10-5 win.

Against Cambridge, Eisenhower held the potent Blue Devils’ offense to four runs through three innings. But Cambridge Springs scored five in the fourth to break the game open in an 11-0 shutout.

“We’re working the positions, trying to narrow down who’s going to play where for the remainder of the season,” Eisenhower manager Rich Pascuzzi said. “We have a bunch of freshmen and sophomores that are stepping up, you know, with more time we’ll be a team to be reckoned with.”

KANE 10, EISENHOWER 5
Leah Tigani had four hits, including a pair of doubles, and scored three runs to help lead Kane past Eisenhower, 10-5.

Maya Smith, Madison Stahli, Makieya McGuire, and Lilly Peterson also had doubles for the Lady Wolves, while Smith and Hailee Sheaffer each scored three runs.

Stahli got the win allowing five runs, three earned, on four hits, while striking out four.

“Our strategy right now is to play aggressive ball on both sides, defensive and offensive,” Pascuzzi said. “We’re trying to get our bats going, and we’re making good plays.”

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 11, EISENHOWER 0, 5 INNINGS
Hailee Rodgers didn’t allow a hit and struck out 10 as Cambridge Springs blanked Eisenhower, 11-0, in five innings.

Only one batter reached base safely, on an error, against Rodgers over her five innings of work. Four of her 10 strikeouts were caught looking.

The Blue Devils struck for two runs in the first and third innings before erupting for five in the fourth. Taylor Smith got things started for Cambridge Springs with a 2-run homerun in the first.

With one out in the fourth, the Blue Devils struck for three straight singles. Smith hit the third which brought in the first run of the inning and an error on the play allowed another run to score. Cheyenne Mosconi singled in another run. Rodgers hit a 2-out RBI double, then courtesy runner Abbie Schultz came home on Emily Boylan’s RBI single.
