Kinzua Wrestling Club to Host Coach Development Seminar

November 7, 2022

WARREN, Pa. – The Kinzua Wrestling Club will offer a coach development seminar for area wrestling coaches and parents who may want to coach on Nov. 14 at their new home, 200 Struthers Street (the former Riverside Bowling Alley).

The seminar will run from 6 – 7:30 pm and is designed to demonstrate research-based methods and focuses on age-appropriate teaching pedagogy (how to teach and demonstrate techniques), how to give effective feedback during practice, and risk management.

This is NOT a technique clinic and coaches are asked to bring wrestling or soft-soled shoes as the seminar will take place on the mats. Coaches are also asked to bring any interested senior wrestlers, as they may become potential coaches in the future.

The seminar is based on the American Sport Education Program which emphasizes “athlete first-winning second” and was developed by Red Childress (physical education instructor and former WAHS coach), Barry Johnson (former physical education instructor and head wrestling coach at Kane), Dr. Dennis Johnson (former physical education instructor and NWCA coaching leadership consultant) and Kim Nelson (former physical education instructor).
