Andy CloseJohn Edward Hanisak, 75, of Rte 337 Tidioute, PA, passed away after a long illness on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at home surrounded by his family.
Born August 29, 1945 in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, he was the son of the late John and Pearl Jackson Hanisak. He is survived by his devoted wife, Leslie Shelkey Hanisak; a son, John Edward Hanisak III of Armstrong, PA; a step-daughter, Frances (John) Pressler of Imperial, PA; a sister, Sue (Jeff) Knauss of Pittsburgh; 12 grandchildren, Collette (Shane) Huffman, Jessica Vincent, Eric York, Lydia (Valentino Coccarelli) York, Joshua Hanisak, Blake Hanisak, Samantha Hanisak, Brooke Hanisak, Brandon Pressler, Taylor Pressler, Anthony Pressler and Austin Pressler; 9 great-grandchildren, James and Ethan Darr, Sadien, Damon and Jayce York, Phinehas and Nakoa Coccarelli, and Benjamin and Matthew Kysor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Hanisak and a daughter, Shelley Flowers.
John graduated from high school and went on to proudly serve his country as a Corporal in the United States Marines in Vietnam, receiving several military awards. He was employed for many years by the United States Postal Service where he was a Postmaster. He also served as Limestone Township Supervisor for several years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 8803 of Tidioute, a member of the Halgren-Wilcox Post 658 American Legion Motorcycle Group in Youngsville, and a member of the Combat Veteran’s Motorcycle Association.
John loved hunting, fishing, and black powder shoots with Madd Anthony’s Rangers. He will be remembered as an avid Steelers Fan. His family and friends will truly miss his wonderful sense of humor which he carried with him until his final days, joking with them and showing signs of his loving humor even in his illness, just days before his passing.
Those wishing to place a memorial may do so to the Wounded Warrior Project. Arrangements have been entrusted to McKinney Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Inc. in Youngsville. No Services will be held at this time. A private burial will take place at a later time.
