Hoffman Sets Hurdles Record as Wolverines Sweep Tri-Meet

May 7, 2024

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. – Sarah Hoffman set the school record in the 300 hurdles on a day when Sheffield swept a tri-meet against Otto-Eldred and Oswayo Valley.

Hoffman, who finished second in the event to O-E’s Addie Bell, finished in 51.88 and broke the record of 52.03 set by Cari Sixt (Conlin) in 1996.

“I was on the track team when Cari was setting those hurdle records so I had to reach out to her! She was of course very happy for her and wanted us to congratulate Sarah,” Sheffield coach Jason Snell said. “She may not have won a hurdle event this evening, but that’s where facing tough competition can be the best recipe for success out there.”

The Wolverines earned a clean sweep at the meet. The boys topped the host Green Wave and the Terrors with identical 107-34 scores. The girls were 72-52 winners over Oswayo Valley, and defeated Otto-Eldred, 68-66.

Hoffman was the overall winner in the 200 (30.06). Madison Snell took first in the 100 (13.81) and shot put (30’0.5″). Katie Finch won the 400 (1:13.10), Emily Foster took the top spot in the high jump (4’9″), Emma Roell was first in the discus (83’1″), and Emily Davidson won the javelin (86’9″).

The boys swept the relays with the 3200 team of Marc Lewis, Alex Eaton, Chase Kyler, and Dylan Hardwick, the 400 team of Alex Marfink, Chase Fetzeck, Isaac Hammerbeck, and Colby Barr, and the 1600 team of Lewis, Christopher Joblon, Barr, and Hardwick all finishing first.

Hammerbeck also took first in the 110 (20.01) and 300 hurdles (48.57). Barr won the 100 (12.03) and 400 (56.66), while Hardwick took first in the 800 (2:09.01), and Eaton won the 3200 (11:57.33).

“Was a great night for results, an amazing night for our program, and an even better night for memories,” Snell said. “I am so proud of Sarah! Her and Coach (Tommy) Hammerbeck have worked so hard together!”

The Wolverines are back in action today as they host Eisenhower for Senior Day at 4 p.m. on Wolverine Mountain.
