Great Day on the Mountain: Sheffield Girls, Boys Sweep Tri-Meet With Otto-Eldred, Cameron County

April 21, 2023

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – It was a great day on Wolverine Mountain, as the Sheffield girls’ track and field team swept Otto-Eldred (76.5-62.5) and Cameron County (78-57), while the boys beat O-E 88-53 and Cameron County 127-14.

The girls got it done in part by sweeping all three relays. The 4×800 team of Madison Connolly, Juniper Gilbride, Katelyn Thomas, and Emma McBride (13:44), the 4×100
team of Bryana Butler, Kassidy Orinko, Emma Roell, and Emily Foster (57.81), and the, 4×400 team of Lily Benton, Madison Connolly, Emily Davidson, and Sarah Hoffman running a season-best (5:16) were all victorious.

Junior Kassidy Orinko punched her return ticket to the D9 championships in the high jump clearing 4’ 9”, joining teammate Emily Foster in the event.

“Kassidy is such a positive soul to be around. She always gives her best, she is a competitor but is always smiling and enjoying the moment!,” said Sheffield coach Jason Snell. “I was so glad that her district qualification tonight was her moment to enjoy. She is an incredible teammate and athlete to be around!”

Snell speaks of his youthful team highly and the youth showed up tonight. Individual overall event winners were freshman Emma Roell in the 100 meters (13.81), freshman Emma McBride in the 800 meters (3:10), and sophomore Emily Davidson in the javelin (87’ 7”).

“These girls show up and work and work as hard as anyone on the team,” Snell said. “They have been so close, so many times with that victory bell in their sights. Tonight they finally, very deservingly crossed that finish line and rang the heck out of it. I couldn’t be happier for such a hard-working and sweet group of young ladies.”

On the boys’ side, after a heartbreaking trip to Coudersport last week, the Wolverines were dominant.

“We knew Otto’s boys coming in were very strong in the hurdles and jumps. We knew we had to step up on the track and in the throws. The challenge was given and they delivered,” Snell said.

Just like the Lady Wolverines, the boys swept all the relay events as well.

The 4×800 team of Alex Eaton, Christopher Joblon, Trenton Mead, and Dylan Hardwick (9:58), the 4×100 of Colby Barr, Collin Brown, Leihden Wotorson, and Lucas McNeal (48.27), and ending the night with the victorious 4×400 team of Collin Brown, Colby Barr, Jaylen Dougherty, and Dylan Hardwick (4:15).

The jumping and hurdle events were dominated by the visiting Terrors but the Wolverines had plenty of individual overall winners outside of those realms.

Overall individual winners were Damar Seymour in the 100 (11.99) and 200 meters (24.89), Colby Barr in the 400 meters (57.90), Dylan Hardwick in the 800 meters (2:18), Alex Eaton in the 1600 meters (5:42), Emre Morgan in the 3200 meters (12:40), and senior Ethen Confer in the discus (98’ 9”).

“Our sprinters (Damar Seymour, Leihden Wotorson, Collin Brown, Jaylen Dougherty, Colby Barr, Jack Chapman) have been our strong point all year,” Snell said. “They continue to sweep at meets and I think they really get the rest of the track events fired up. It’s a true blessing to have so much speed, talent, and leadership from them.”

The Lady Wolverines improve their record to 2-4 on the season and the boys now are 5-1.
The Wolves of North Clarion will visit Wolverine Mountain next as Sheffield will host them on Monday (April 24).
