Andy CloseCynthia C. DeChano, 82, of Mead Township, Pa., died with her family at her side, on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, at the John and Orpha Blair Hospice Home, Warren, Pa.., after an extended illness.
She was born Dec. 23, 1938, in North Tonawanda, N.Y. Cynthia was the daughter of Clarence George and Nora Agnes Eick Castellion.
She was a 1956 graduate of N. Tonawanda High School, N. Tonawanda, N.Y., and a 1960 graduate of the State University of New York earning a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and earned her master’s degree in education from the Buffalo State University.
She was employed with the North Tonawanda N.Y. School District, the department of defense, teaching in France and with the Adams County School District, located in Colorado. She was an elementary school teacher with the Warren County School District working at the former Allegheny Valley Elementary School. She was a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she had served on the church council, choir, quilting and assisting minister and a member of First Lutheran Church. She had served on the board of directors of the Warren County Historical Society and a tour guide at their museum.
Cynthia is survived by her husband of 55 years, David F. DeChano, whom she married July 16, 1966, in Toul Rosieres, France; two children: Wayne David DeChano and his wife, Danielle of Tijeras, N.M., and Lisa Marie DeChano Cook and her husband, Gordon and her grand-daughter, Lauryn Cook all of Plainwell, Mich.; one brother, George A. Castel-ion and wife, Caryl of Stamford, Conn.; one sister, Yvonne C. Castellion Savory of Hamilton, Mont.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Alan W. Castellion.
Friends may call at First Lutheran Church, 109 W. Third Avenue, Warren, Pa., on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021, from 11 a.m. to noon when a funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Jeffrey Ewing, pastor, officiating. Private interment will be in Oak-land Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
